It floods her with a sense of wonder, blanketing her in curiosity and enthrallment. It sparks a fire in her dirty heart. A warmth in her battered soul.

She stares over the darkening horizon, thoughts of discontent dancing in the distance of her thoughts. Memories of happiness, and of innocence haunt her days in a foggy melancholy. A pale gloom lurking by her every step.

She wears feathers in her hair to help her remember the joy she once held. To help her remember the hope of what the future had held. To remember peace, and to remember excitement.

The complications of adulthood are her future now. The horrors and the cruelty of her peers are her current reality.

But still, she wonders.

Can she once again be innocent? Can she once again feel clean, and unashamed?

Is there still the possibility of hope?

Of escape?

She waits in the snowy meadow, a blanket of darkness hiding her from the uncaring eyes of the outside world.

She dreams of hope, and of warmth.

Of kindness, and of honesty. 

She dreams of love, and the impossibilities of a simple life.

Of innocence, and redemption.

The shadows of the past torture her wounded heart in hushed whispers, While the distant light of the approaching future promises of better days.

She waits for those days to come.

She waits for her chance to move forward.

The new experience makes her feel anxious. Unsure, and curious. Alive, and filled with a new sense of adventure. A new sense of feeling as if there is a reason for her continued existence. A reason for pushing forward.

She glances around, wanting to sink back into the shadows, but forcing herself to be strong. To not look back. To begin her new life.

This is her second chance.

A chance to find her purpose.

A chance to live at last.

A barbarian queen lays in a snowy field, gazing up at the soft snowflakes falling from the blackness of a winter night. 

She dreams of better days. Of innocence, and of simpler times.

Her life is larger than herself, and she has no escape from it. Only this nighttime contemplation. This lonely reflection.

She was once happy. Once free. 

Her power is her cage.

Her responsibilities her imprisonment.

This was originally intended to be a portrait of a fairy girl, but it ended up being more of a fallen angel.

I see her as curious and sensitive. Wounded, and beginning to understand the cruelties of this world. Beginning to see the darkness lurking in the hearts of those around her.
